How much does it cost?

The cost to pre-order a plate is $35. $17.50 of the proceeds from each plate support Memphis Shelby Police Activities League (PAL). Therefore, when you have a Memphis Shelby PAL Specialty License Plate, you’re making sure every child has a PAL year after year!

How do I order my customized Memphis Shelby PAL plate?

You can place your order by mail. Make all checks or money orders payable to Memphis Shelby PAL. Please make note that it is for the PAL license. Send your check for $35 to 2893 North Watkins, Memphis, TN 38127. Be sure to include your full name, complete mailing address, and county. Please include an email or phone number for us to send confirmation that it was received.

What do I need to do after I submit the order/payment form?

Relax because you have done a great thing! Once you submit your information and payment, you’re all set. You can help us reach our goal by becoming a participant in our Power of PAL 100. Once the minimum number of orders are placed, you’ll receive a letter from the State of Tennessee at the address you provided. If the pre-order threshold is not met by June 30, 2022, you will be notified via email, and you can choose to make your payment a donation to Memphis Shelby PAL or have it refunded to you.

What does the $35 purchase of this plate benefit?

$17.50 of each plate purchased benefits preventing juvenile crime and violence through positive relationship building amongst kids, cops, and communities. We accomplish this year-round during critical times for our children (after school and summer) through our 6 rocks: Education, Nutrition, Discovery, Intervention, Mentoring, and Sports.

Is any of the $35.00 plate fee tax deductible?

Yes. Because Memphis Shelby PAL is a non-profit, the $17.50 that goes to PAL is tax deductible.

Is the $35.00 fee a one time fee?

No. Memphis Shelby PAL tag is a specialized tag and the county clerk's office adds the $35.00 to your regular tag registration cost. Remember that $17.50 of your fee will come to PAL to help keep new and exciting things coming in children lives daily. TN tag fees continues to be the cheapest in the Midsouth area, even when specialized.

May I personalize my plate or use a specific numbered plate?

Specific numbered or personalized plates are not available for the pre-sale of 1000 plates. You will have that option on the next renewal of your specialty plate.

How do I order my plate after the 1,000-preorder period has ended?

After the 1,000 preorder plates goes into production, you will be able to purchase future plates at your local county clerk’s office at the time of your renewal.

When do I receive my plate?

Memphis Shelby PAL is taking pre-orders for the license plates up to June 30, 2022. The Tennessee Department of Revenue will mail letters to let customers know when their assigned plates will be available in their local county clerk’s office.

My plate hasn’t expired yet; may I still pre-order a plate?

Yes, please place your order today! The Tennessee Department of Revenue will mail letters to let customers know when their assigned plates become available in their local county clerk’s office. When you pick up your plate, you will receive a credit for the remaining days of your term unless your tags are due to expire within 30 days. Your new tags will expire 1 year from the date you are issued your specialty license plate.

What happens if my current plate registration expires before my new plate arrives?

Purchase your order with Memphis Shelby PAL today and follow your normal license plate renewal process. Is there a limit to the number of plates I can order?

The specialty plate is available for vehicles registered in Tennessee, excluding commercial vehicles. If you own more than one vehicle, you can wear Memphis Shelby PAL specialty license plate proudly on each of your vehicles. Registration applies to a single vehicle.

If I have more than one car, do I need to fill out the form separately for each plate I want to purchase?

Yes. If there are multiple drivers in your household that will be ordering a plate, you will fill out the form once for each driver. The information entered should include the name and contact information for the vehicle registrant. For example, if you are purchasing 3 plates for 3 separate family members, but the title of all 3 vehicles is under the same name, you will fill out the form 3 times with the same information.

I live outside of Tennessee, can I still pre-order a plate?

You must be a resident of Tennessee to purchase a Memphis Shelby PAL specialty license plate.
